Recently, candidate for North Carolina 2nd district U.S. House Renee Ellmers “spoke out for all Americans” when she said that American people would not stand for the building of the Victory Mosque near ground-zero.

Now I want to take the opportunity to speak for myself. First I would like to echo for the 1,000th time that it is neither a Mosque nor a Victory Mosque, it is a cultural center. Second and more importantly, it has nothing to do with the problems that we Americans are really worried about.

Elmers is one of many politicians using this Victory Mosque issue as bait. Trying to get Americans to focus on trivial matters rather than more important things like how poor our economy is doing, or why we still have so many troops in Afghanistan. And while I can not speak for all Americans, I for one can say that I will not fall for the “bait”.

It is no coincidence that politicians tend to have the most to say about the things that matter the least. They can go on and on about these sorts of things, giving statement after statement, sound bite after sound bite, and speech after speech. But when it comes time to talk about the issues that matter, they all of a sudden become hesitant to speak, deliver speeches written by someone else, or are down right unavailable for comment.
